Length: 12 km
Average duration: 3 hours of active paddling
Definitely the most diverse kayaking trip in Lake Skadar National Park. Especially for those who enjoy bird watching.
Vranjina is beautiful hill surrounded with water from each side: from the south it’s been splashed with Lake’s waves and from two other sides it’s captured by two branches of Morača River. As an area of very dense vegetation, it appears as a shelter to a myriad of different bird’s species. If you’re lucky enough to be there in spring or early summer, you’ll enjoy even the company of grandiose Dalmatian pelicans, the bird which is the real mascot of Lake Skadar.
Tour starts at the spot which is easiest to find and approach – the place of National Park Visitor’s Center. Passing a couple of kilometers of the Lake, we’ll enter right branch of Morača, heading north between two amazing rows of willows. On our way we’ll stop at a restaurant at the shore for some traditional fish meal and a nice chill at their terrace. Next stop is just below a medieval Vranjina Monastery. Once having three churches and more than 400 monks, now it modestly speaks about those glory days. And keeps one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Lake’s area as a special treasure.
Last part of the route is properly magical: getting back to the kayaks we’ll enjoy perfect natural harmony of the river and surrounding nature, reaching very special and remote part of the lake for the last half an hour of paddling.
