Hiking, canyoning, cycling, kayaking and rafting tour

Durmitor NP and Piva Nature Park are just like God given areas for multi activity, hut-to-hut tours. And this one is just like this – it includes hiking, canyoning, cycling, kayaking and rafting trips during 6 active days in truly stunning environment. Sounds challenging, but we speak about a moderate tour, regarding physical abilities and experience in doing these activities. And yes – WE WILL USE CAR FOR JUST ONE ACTIVE DAY for less than 2 hours. Lets’ try it.

1

Day 1: Transfer to Durmitor NP

Meeting day we’ll spend mostly in the transfer to the starting point, but we’ll try to color it in the best possible way. Earlier start of this day is preferred as there’s pretty much of attractive spots we could visit on our way: from medieval Morača Monastery to Biogradska Gora NP, Tara Bridge (with an option of doing a zip-line tour) and Black Lake in Durmitor NP. Sounds like perfect introduction to our amazing adventure in the wild.

2

Day 2: Prutaš - Astonishing vistas of Durmitor's giants

Length: 9.5 km
Altitude: 700 meters
Average duration: 4.5 hours of active walk

There are 48 peaks over 2.000 meters in Durmitor, but Prutaš (2.394 m a.s.l.) is considered as the most beautiful one. It looks amazing because of his vertical layers and it represents the most attractive panoramic walk in this magical mountain.

Trail leads up from our camping spot to hidden details of Durmitor, uncovering its eternal beauty – from the pass of Škrčko ždrijelo we’ll enjoy the view of the highest part of the massif, colorful layers of Šareni pasovi, we’ll see several two-thousanders from above as well. Finally, the top of the peak will show us bigger part of Montenegrin mountains, wide Piva highland and quite far to Bosnian territory. In short, highly recommended tour from all real nature lovers.

3

Day 3: Dragišnica - Hidden treasures under The Big Rock

Length: 16.50 km
Altitude: 600 meters descending
Average duration: 5 hours of active walking

Even though this tour should be classified as “easy trekking tour” we never skip it when in the North. Simply, it’s an amazing walk through a fabulous landscape that starts from Durmitor foothills, going down to Komarnica valley through marvelous forest, passing under one of the longest pieces of rock in whole Europe – 3.5 km long and about 800 meters high rocky wall of Boljska greda. Passing the ancient maple forest under it, we’ll soon reach some marks of civilization – nice small villages and the road through them will lead us to our next accommodation. Eco resort “Nevidio” is a picturesque and comfortable bunch of traditional mountain houses with a great restaurant, situated in one of the most beautiful villages in the country. The most famous and the most popular small canyon, two glacial lakes, Durmitor and Vojnik mountains in surroundings – it promises a great place to stay for a couple of days.

4

Day 4: Nevidio canyoning trip - enter the last explored canyon in Europe

Length: cca 2 km
Altitude: 125 meters descend
Average duration: 2.5-3 hours of active walking

No doubt, it’s one of the ultimate active tours in Montenegro. In last 4-5 years canyoning has become a big thing in local outdoor tourism as there’s many fantastic gorges whose conquering means super fun adrenaline experience. And this one is the most special in Montenegro.

Its name – Nevidio – translated means “never seen” from the simple reason that nobody had managed to pass through it until 1955. Today it’s the most popular canyoning tour and sort of “trade mark” of our active tourism, thanks to super-experienced and trained guides who know every single rock in this part of Komarnica River flow. Spectacular stone boulders, crystal clean water with many waterfalls, super tiny passes and big halls – all this is something that only Nevidio can offer. If we tried to encounter all the attractions of this canyon it would take too much time. Just come and experience it.

Day 5: From Pošćenje to Rudinice - a great cycling trip through an awesome remote area

Length: 32 km
Grade of difficulty: moderate to challenging

According to our eco-friendly commitment, we’ll start our next trip straight from our accommodation. We’ll cycle to Piva Park of Nature, our next destination, passing above Nevidio Canyon, wondering through picturesque remote villages and forests, finally meeting amazing Piva Lake. This panoramic trip will bring us to amazing Rudinice village, placed at the edge of Piva Canyon, a perfect spot for enjoying a real peace, beautiful nature and wide horizons, as well as fantastic food, nice cabins and traditional hospitality of our hosts.

6

Day 6: Piva Lake - kayak/canoe trip in the emerald green

Length: 17.5 km
Average duration: 3.5-4 hours of active paddling

Made during early 1970s for the needs of the largest Montenegrin hydropower plant, Piva Lake is the largest and the deepest Montenegrin artificial lake. If you didn’t know it from before, you’d never guess it’s been made by humans – perfectly fitted between massive rocks of Piva Canyon it simply allures you to come closer and enjoy in its clean, emerald green water. One of the best ways to do it is kayaking – we’ll paddle on it to Plužine, the main settlement of Piva Nature Park, enjoying fantastic environment. We’ll stop on our way at an awesome hidden camp, a real paradise for those who want to stay far from others (and who know for it!), enjoying great food, fresh drinks, swimming and perfect silence.

Finally, we’ll reach our goal for this day. It’s Zvono Guesthouse, a cozy and jazzy place with fantastic food, homemade drinks, great music and atmosphere, as well as nice and comfortable apartments. We’re sure you’ll be happy that we’ll stay there more than one night.

7

Day 7: Tara River - pure adrenaline rafting tour in truly spectacular gorge

Length: 15 km
Average duration: 2.5 hours

We’ll end this adventure with one of the most popular things that you can do in Montenegro – white water rafting on Tara River – about two hours of bumping on high rapids of crystal clear water in the most beautiful and the deepest canyon in Europe. Sounds like lots of fun, isn’t it? The most recommendable months for this type of activity are May and June – in this time some rapids are graded even with 5+, river shines in its full glory, lots of side streams and waterfalls just complete this unforgettable experience. And don’t worry about safety – we work with the most experienced and the best equipped skippers.

Day 8: Departure day

Even we have finished with the active part of the tour, there are some more places to visit. On our way back we’ll stop at medieval orthodox Piva Monastery to enjoy its beauty and feel its spirit of real calmness. Also, we’ll visit Nišić, the second biggest city in Montenegro to have a short walk and to taste fresh beer from its brewery, the oldest and the most appreciated in the country. Accommodation

As the most of offered tours are designed in hut-to-hut style, the main principle in choosing of accommodation was to pick the best available solution at particular spot. As it’s obvious from listed places for each tour, it varies from small hotels and guesthouses to private apartments, tourist households and wild camping. Except lodgings in remote areas, all the accommodations involve modern, comfortable rooms with separate bathroom and shower facilities and it’s feasible to book cabins in accordance to guests’ preferences in terms of number of beds. Traditional households (as well as wild camping) normally mean pretty basic, but fully functional conditions and facilities. Staying there makes whole the package original and  attractive. Placed far from city lights and any type of pollution, they offer some other kind of comfort, from starry skies to mountain water springs and organic food. It also implies enjoying in simple, original life of local people, their culture and natural warmness and hospitality.

Each program is adjustable and it’s possible to do some changes, according to wishes of particular group.

Food

Price of each program includes all food during the tour. Breakfasts and dinners will be normally at the accommodation or in some nice restaurant nearby. On active days (means apart from meeting day, days off and/or departure day), most of lunches will be arranged in packed form. Other days, we’ll eat at restaurants or local families.

Not only Montenegro, but whole Balkan is known for its great food. Our turbulent past has determined even our cuisine, so apart from local tastes, you’ll recognize strong influences of Turkish, Mediterranean and Hungarian style. Appearing as ambassadors of local culture and tradition, we try to present all diversity of food in Montenegro – from quite interesting and original traditional plates in modern style, to simple and authentic meals when at families or shepherds’ farms. One is sure – you will love it. And it’s also about quantity – sharing goods with guests is an ancient way of showing hospitality and wherever you eat, expect quite big portions.
