Hiking, rafting and wild swimming program
This tour truly confirms that’s very feasible to make a perfect multiday program with almost no transfers between active days. Choosing it, you’ll meet maybe the most attractive part of Montenegro as it passes through magical, remote landscapes of Piva Park of Nature and Durmitor National park. We really speak about awesome area – there you can find literally everything: high mountains, awesome pastures, plenty of glacial lakes, crystal clean rivers, terrific canyons… Plenty of great spots to enjoy untouched nature through walking, rafting and wild swimming.
Day 1: Arrival
Transfer to Plužine – duration: 2 hours
Plužine is one of smallest towns in whole country, around two hours of drive far from Podgorica. Built in 1970’s at the shore of Lake Piva, it is center of Piva Nature Park. This region is maybe the most beautiful and most complete in terms of taste of most true lovers of outdoor activities. Piva offers literally everything: from wild, crystal clear rivers, spectacular deep, rocky canyons, glacial lakes, wide pastures, beautiful old villages to high peaks of Durmitor, Bioč, Maglić and Volujak mountains. In short – perfect area to meet real untouched natural beauty of Montenegro.
First day offers some nice and relaxed contents that we could do on our way: visit to Ostrog, the most popular orthodox monastery in the country, chilling in charming city of Nikšić and a stop at Piva Monastery, another amazing sacral building.
Day 2: Hike to Trnovačko Lake - Exploring BMW massif
Length: 14 km
Altitude: 1.315 meters ascend, 700 meters descend
Average duration: 6 hours of active walking
First day tour we’ll start from Stabna village. Passing between beautiful old houses we’ll hit the trail that will soon bring us up to two glacial pearls hidden in the middle of dense beech forest. They are called Stabanska Lakes – Small and Big, perfect spots for some wild swimming and short rest before ascend to the pass of Bojanska vrata. It’s literally door of the Bioč – Maglić – Volujak mountain massif – from there you’ll see all their highest peaks and those who want to get some more from this tour will be honored with the ascent of the highest peak of Volujak Mountain. The view from that point is just spectacular.
When in Bojanska vrata, we’ll know that we have done all the challenge planned for this day. Descending from there, in next two hours we’ll find the most spectacular detail in whole massif – heart shaped Trnovačko Lake, in most of opinions the most beautiful lake in whole Montenegro. We’ll spend the evening at beautiful terrace of the only guesthouse on the Lake’s shore. Even quite basic, you’ll be surprised with the quality and charm of the service they offer: cold beer and juices, warm tea and coffee, clean and nice accommodation – what more you’d ask for at the place in the middle of the mountain, about 10 km far from any road?
Day 3: Maglić Mountain hike - Endless views to Bosnia and Montenegro
Length: 15.1 km
Altitude: 826 meters ascending, 1.372 meters descending
Average duration: 7 hours of active walking
After morning swim in fresh water of the Lake we’ll hit probably the most challenging tour in the program but you’ll see it’s more than worth of the effort. After climbing some 800 meters of altitude at Maglić’s slopes you’ll see the most beautiful picture of Trnovačko Lake. There’s again an option of conquering another peak – the highest one in the massif. Montenegrin Maglić is less than one hour far from our original route and it would be our pleasure to lead you there if you want to achieve it.
The way descending will take us around spectacular rocky boulders of Bioč Mountain, beautiful pine, beech and oak forests down to Mratinje village. From there we’ll be picked up for a half an hour ride to the spot of meeting two most beautiful canyons in Montenegro. We’ll spend a night just above the place where rivers of Piva and Tara meet each other, making long and wide known Drina River.
Day 4: Rafting on Tara - Pure adrenaline on the cleanest river
Length: 15 km
Duration: 2.5 hours
Visiting Piva Park of nature without doing rafting is not an option in our programs, simply because we speak about one of biggest attractions of Montenegrin tourist offer. Tara is known as “teardrop of Europe” because of its crystal clear water (yes, we drink straight from the river!) and officially the deepest canyon in whole continent. Its slopes rise above 1.000 meters and the highest point is at 1.300. We’ll do rafting on its most attractive part which will take us through 18 big rapids (some of them are graded with 5+ in spring and early summer), showing us much more than this. We’ll enjoy really easy time resting our legs and preparing ourselves for new walking adventures in following days.
After the trip we’ll have short transfer to our next accommodation settled at 1.400 meters of altitude, straight at the ridge of Tara canyon. In short, probably the most charming place to stay in whole program.
Day 5: Piva Mountain hike - Irresistible silence of old Montenegrin highlands
Length: 17 km
Altitude: mild hilly terrain – start at 1.457 end at 1.463 m a.s.l. (range between the highest and the lowest point is about 300 meters)
Average duration: 5.5 hours of active walking
We dare to say that this walk is among 5 most beautiful trekking tours in whole country. Starting in the forests around Sokolina, it brings us to the wide highlands of Piva Mountain, meeting us with original architecture of old Montenegrin villages. All the time path prizes with the view to Durmitor’s high peaks, giving us a couple of breathtaking sights to Tara river rapids several hundred meters lower. Finally, we’ll reach Nedajno (1.463 m a.s.l.), one of the most beautiful villages in Montenegro.
Day 6: Durmitor Mountain hike - Meet His Majesty
Length: 14 km
Altitude: 951 meters ascending, 500 meters descending
Average duration: 6.5 hours of active walking
Another long day walking but it’s definitely the highlight of this program, as we’ll pass the most attractive part of Durmitor Mountain. After short transfer (15 minutes) we’ll hit beautiful Sušica valley that hosts periodical Sušičko Lake every spring for approximately 2 months – if you book this program for May or June you’ll have a pleasure to see this real miracle of nature. Climbing up from there we’ll reach another valley – according the most of opinions it’s the most beautiful one in whole National Park. Placed between two massive rocky walls – Bobotov kuk (the highest peak of Durmitor) from the left and Prutaš from the right, Škrka Valley is a shelter for two amazing lakes, a real paradise for unforgettable wild swim and a long lunch break. From there we’ll move closer to unreal colorful layers of Šareni Pasovi peak, climbing up to the pass at 2.114 meters of altitude, the highest point of this day tour. When on the pass, we’ll offer a bonus option – climbing Prutaš peak, the most beautiful view point in Durmitor. It will take about one hour more but it’s definitely worth the effort. Anyway, from that point we’ll have about one hour and half of declining to wide pasture of Dobri Do to rest at the household that spends summer seasons there, enjoying camping in the middle of Montenegrin natural treasure.
Day 7: Dragišnica hike - Hidden treasures under The Big Rock
Length: 16.500 km

Passing all the demanding routes, we’ll finish this hiking adventure with another top ranked trekking tour. Starting from our camping point we’ll pass amazing Dragišnica forest and 2 kilometers long, the same named valley of old maple trees. The main attraction of this awesome walk is Boljska greda – almost 3.5 km long and in average 800 meters high piece of rock that rises straight from the valley. We’ll walk along it, getting back to the forest, following Komarnica river which sinks and reapers many times, making beautiful small waterfalls and natural pools.
